Every year, millions of tonnes of waste end up in our oceans, devastating marine life and polluting coastlines. On August 13, 2025, Trrayaam Foundation led a massive coastal cleanup drive along the Valsad coastline as part of the International Coastal Cleanup Day initiative.
The Event
Over 200 volunteers from across South Gujarat joined hands to clean a 5-kilometer stretch of coastline. Armed with gloves, bags, and determination, our volunteers collected over 2,500 kg of waste in just 6 hours.
Key Findings
The waste audit revealed shocking statistics:
- 65% of collected waste was single-use plastic
- 15% was fishing nets and ropes
- 12% was glass and metal
- 8% was organic and other debris
Impact
Beyond the immediate cleanup, this event served as a powerful awareness campaign. Local media covered the event extensively, and many volunteers pledged to reduce their own plastic consumption. The collected plastic waste was sent to our recycling partner for proper processing.
Join us next year as we continue our fight against ocean pollution!
