Ganesh Chaturthi is a celebration of devotion, but the environmental cost has been devastating. Every year, millions of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols laced with toxic paints are immersed in rivers and lakes, contaminating water sources and killing aquatic life.
Our Initiative
In 2025, Trrayaam Foundation launched an ambitious campaign in Navsari to shift the community towards eco-friendly Ganesh celebrations. We partnered with local artisans to create beautiful, natural clay Ganesh idols that dissolve harmlessly in water.
What We Did
- Distributed 500+ eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols to families
- Conducted workshops on making your own clay Ganpati at home
- Set up designated immersion tanks to prevent river pollution
- Organized a community parade showcasing eco-friendly celebrations
The Impact
This year, Navsari saw a 40% reduction in POP idol usage in areas where we actively campaigned. The immersion tanks collected over 300 idols, preventing direct river contamination. Local schools participated enthusiastically, with students creating their own clay idols in workshops.
This is not just about one festival — it's about changing mindsets. When celebration meets sustainability, everyone wins.
